Government Launches GOV.UK App for Seamless Public Services

The UK government is revolutionizing the way citizens access public services with the launch of the GOV.UK App. Now available for download on smartphones, this app aims to bring the convenience of digital banking and online shopping to public services.

The app will allow users to build a personalized experience based on their specific needs and circumstances. The homepage can feature any combination of 11 topics, including Benefits, Business, Care, Driving and transport, Employment, Health and disability, Money and tax, Parenting and guardianship, Retirement, Studying and training, and Travel.

Users can prioritize the topics that are most relevant to them, making it faster and easier to access the information and services they need. This personalized approach ensures that citizens can quickly get the support they require, whether it's applying for a passport, checking their tax status, or managing childcare credits.

Over time, the GOV.UK App will be enhanced with new tools and functionalities. One of the most anticipated features is the integration of GOV.UK Chat, a generative AI chatbot. This chatbot will help users find answers to niche questions more quickly, reducing the need to sift through the massive 700,000-page GOV.UK website. For example, users can get detailed information on how to set up a specific type of business or what support new parents can access.

Technology Secretary Peter Kyle emphasized the significance of the app, stating, 'By putting public services in your pocket, we will do away with clunky paper forms and hours spent on hold, so you can immediately get the information you need and continue on with the rest of your day.'

The GOV.UK App is just the beginning of the government's digital transformation. Later this year, the GOV.UK Wallet will be launched, starting with a digital Veterans’ Card this autumn, followed by a digital driver’s license pilot. The Wallet will eventually integrate with the GOV.UK App, providing a comprehensive digital solution for all government-issued documents.

The app is underpinned by GOV.UK One Login, allowing users to log in using facial ID for a secure and convenient experience. This launch follows the Digital Blueprint for Government, a comprehensive plan to modernize and streamline public services.
