CJ ENM Debuts AI-Generated Animation 'Cat Biggie' and Expands AI Film, Drama Efforts

Korean entertainment powerhouse CJ ENM has unveiled a 100% AI-generated animation series titled 'Cat Biggie' and announced plans to expand into AI film and drama production within the year. The non-verbal, short-form animation series, which follows the story of a cat who unexpectedly becomes a father to a baby chick, will debut on YouTube in July.

The series consists of 30 episodes, each two minutes long, and took a total of five months to complete, including content planning and character development. A compact team of six specialists was involved in the project. According to CJ ENM, the speed and scale of the project are noteworthy, as a typical 5-minute 3D animation usually takes three to four months to produce.

The studio is bullish on AI and is implementing the technology across the entire content value chain, including planning, production, distribution, and marketing. "We are applying AI across the entire content value chain—including planning, production, distribution, and marketing—to expand AI content production across genres and formats," said Shin Keun-sup, Chief Strategy Officer. "This allows us to secure next-generation IP. At the same time, we’re nurturing a new generation of creators equipped with AI technology, business, and content planning expertise, and expanding our AI team to position CJ ENM as a global AI studio."

During a Culture Talk in Seoul, Korea, CJ ENM demonstrated proprietary AI production systems, including Cinematic AI, optimized for narrative content such as drama and film, and AI Script, designed to help discover original IP. The latter tool analyzes consumer demand and market trends, identifies promising IP, and suggests suitable genres and media.

While the use of AI in the film and TV industry raises concerns about job security, CJ ENM remains committed to responsible and innovative use of the technology. The company's AI strategy is part of a broader push to leverage technology for creative and business growth, positioning CJ ENM at the forefront of the global AI content market.
