Four teams of engineers participated in the championship, tasked with programming the robots to pass, shoot, and survive falls. Some robots didn't last until the final whistle, with two of them needing to be stretchered off the field after multiple falls. In other instances, engineers had to help their robots get back on their feet, and in one case, two robots trampled their fallen teammate.

Cheng explained that the football scenario was chosen for the robot competition for two main reasons: to encourage students to apply their algorithmic skills to real-world robotics and to showcase the robots' ability to walk autonomously and stably, withstand collisions, and demonstrate higher levels of intelligence and safety.

While the match was far from perfect, it marks a significant step forward in the development of AI and robotics. As the technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see more sophisticated and capable robots in the future.
